Eat Right and Lose Weight

Green Salad If you want to lose weight, one of the best things you can do to succeed is to eat right. With that in mind, we're going to take a quick look at the psychology of eating (at least some aspects of it) and then offer some tips on eating right to lose weight successfully. By the end, you should understand why changing your eating lifestyle instead of depending on a fad diet is going to be necessary if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

Psychology of Eating

  • Eating on the Go - When you grab fast food for lunch or dinner and order small portions, you may in the back of your mind just think that it's a snack even though it might have more calories than you would imagine. This could cause you to eat more during dinner, which isn't good.

  • Starving is Good, Right? - Wrong. Starving yourself and not eating enough will actually cause your body to turn down the metabolism, hanging on to the fat you have.

Tips for Eating Right to Lose Weight

There are many tips to help you eat right and lose weight, but here are just a couple.

  • Eat Smaller Portions - While you'll still want to avoid the wrong types of food (fast food for example), if you limit the normal portions that you eat, you're going to lose weight. That said, you don't want to eat so little that your body goes into defensive mode and slows down your metabolism.

  • Eat More Fruit - At least half of every meal should consist of fruit or vegetables. If this isn't the case, you need to change your eating habits quickly if you want to lose weight and not have it come back.

There are, of course, plenty of other tips on eating right that will help you lose weight, but it really comes down to one thing.

Change Your Eating Lifestyle

While fast food is convenient, it's not a healthy way to feed your body. Treating yourself occasionally may not be bad if you're eating right the rest of the time, but you may find that as you eat right longer, the fast food turns your stomach. This is a good thing because it means your body is telling you that you're feeding it the right foods at the right times in the right quantities.  This will help you lose weight and keep it off.
